QUALITY EDUCATION: DESERVED BY ALL
“Quality education” is commonly interpreted as a way for educators to provide lessons and knowledge to students. However, its actual definition and importance exceeds this by a staggering amount. In my view, quality education is not just educators providing and assisting students. Delving into deeper meanings, it is also a way for educators such as teachers and professors to open the gateways of opportunities for each and every student regardless of their identity. In order for each student to harness their opportunities and capabilities, quality education must be freely accessible for each and every one of them. Not only are the tuition fees handled, but learning materials such as books are readily provided for individuals who are eager to learn.
One might ask, providing free quality education seems probable, but what are the possible challenges to prepare for when doing so? To answer this, although quality education is freely accessible nowadays, I’ve observed that some areas still fail to achieve this due to common challenges. To start with, the most common one out of all is the lack of proper funding. Some schools may provide free education, but due to insufficient funding, its quality will be affected. Different types of problems are then caused due to insufficient funding.
Firstly, we have a lack of staff, specifically the teaching personnel. The reason as to why the amount of teachers has significantly decreased as years passed is due to the low salary that is handed out. I’ve heard news wherein public school teachers would handle numerous students, the number usually exceeding the limited amount within the classroom. From my experience, due to the lack of teachers from last year’s batch, we struggled to properly focus during classes as we were merged into a single section. This has proven to negatively affect both students and teachers as the surrounding environment does not meet the expected requirements for peaceful discussions to occur.
Secondly, we have poor time management. As stated, there is a significant lack of teaching personnel, this results in time restrictions when discussing. Months prior, I’ve interrogated some of my teachers regarding this issue, and they’ve mentioned that the half-day schedule is mostly used for public schools in order for different batches of students to have the opportunity to learn. Though each student is given the chance to learn, the amount of knowledge gained will be affected as time constraints can lead to unfavorable results.
Lastly, we have poor facility management. With the lack of funds, most schools fail to provide proper cleaning and hygienic products. This results in the educational facility being hazardous, depending on the severity of the uncleanliness of the environment. Not only will this affect the learning of students, but this increases the chances for diseases to be easily transmitted. Relating this to my previous school years, students often sent complaints as they are not satisfied with the cleanliness of our school. I myself had decided to inform my teachers regarding this issue as most of the restrooms provided by our school were extremely unclean.
There is still a staggering amount of problems faced, but the four given are commonly seen throughout different schools. Summarizing all these challenges, the impacts are similar. Every student’s learning experience will be negatively impacted as all the possible challenges act as a barrier to everyone’s goals. These barriers can result in students being stressed and heavily pressured. If these cannot be fixed as soon as possible, the motivation to learn within the students will start to diminish therefore questioning the purpose behind quality education.
What are the outcomes when we attempt to promote quality education? By doing so, this heavily contributes to society. It is proven that by doing so, individuals can have proper knowledge and understanding needed in order for them to have a stable lifestyle. With this proper knowledge, individuals will less-likely struggle in pursuing their dream professions therefore resulting in poverty to lessen as time progresses. Not only will they be able to achieve their professions, their health will considerably increase as any type of stressful situations can be easily handled due to proper experiences.
Numerous examples can be made if promoting quality education occurs. Since we gain general knowledge with the help of quality education, positive feedback from our society will be provided. With all this knowledge, those who strive to be businessmen can soon create a successful business. Those who strive to be medical personnel can soon be viewed as the most trusted individuals in the medical field. All of those who accomplished their goals in life are the outcomes of the promotion of quality education.
I’ve heard others debate and question whether technology has given benefits or potential drawbacks and has given positive influences regarding the quality of education. My view for this is that both are shown as of today. Technology can assist in providing diverse ways in order for students to learn. As a student who experienced online classes due to the pandemic, technology has played a huge role in assisting me in learning. Not only was I able to join classes, I was also able to search for more information which heavily assisted me throughout my online and fact-to-face classes journey.
On the other hand, although technology has given us nearly every necessity we need for learning, we students have gotten heavily reliant on it. The simplicity with the usage of technology has stripped the creativity off of the students. The lack of effort is to be expected as students would use artificial intelligence to create their works. In addition to this, prolonged usage of devices can heavily damage the student’s eyes and can be the cause of distraction therefore every student must plan a proper allotted time whenever they wish to use technology for learning or entertainment purposes.
