As a self-proclaimed ENFJ and a morally guided student, what are the impacts of the SDGs to me? I have always called for work that builds on efforts to create a more sustainable world, especially for the youth as well as those that are yet to come. When I first learned about the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), I knew they were the perfect framework for us to understand what our country ought to focus on. Introduced in 2015, the SDGs are a collection of goals that every country on earth is expected to strive for by 2030. This is important as long these are not the goals which nudge a country to work for the betterment and development of its own people. One way by which I participate in the pursuit of these goals is through educating myself on the pressing societal concerns that impact our country and about how both state and non-state action deal with such matters. But I have long been used to using social media, which is an effective source of news and information. Aside from this, I do join into tree planting, medical missions and feeding programs together with my family. They have given me more skin in the game around the SDGs but understanding that Gold Award is not a race helps teach us how cooperation and collaboration will be key to getting progress on these beautiful goals.

With the Sustainable Development Goals, quality in education plays a key role not only to move them forward but create triggers of community progress on other fronts as well. This links well with some of the goals, like No Poverty and Zero Hunger. When people are educated, they can have better and higher paying jobs which helps them live lives free from poverty… and being in disguised is hunger. Additionally, the SDG 10 — Reduced Inequality highlights that everyone must have an equal opportunity regardless of where they belong from.

The Sustainable Development Goals are not only the responsibility of each of us, but also a great engine for the action of governments, businesses and international organizations. Sustainable will require this laws to be passed by governments in order to reduce environmental pollution and give a better access for education and health to all citizens.

The implementation of the SDGs to tackle global issues requires collective action. Initiating actions that further these goals require a mutually beneficial partnership with community. Community-service, education to the youth, and advocacy for equality in gender, practices in general waste management are among the right actions which communities may work on as a group. In order to fight the causes I believe in, those values must extend beyond just my contributions for a time and trickle down to all that I do.
