For me, quality education falls is defined by the quality of the teachers credentials, the quality of the school’s facilities and the quality of the environment at school, as well as the grading system and the opportunities presented at said school. In this country and many countries alike, the quality of a school’s education is presented by school rankings, the school’s reputation, the alumni who are under the school’s name and the word of mouth from individuals talking about future school’s to go to. For USJR, statistics from EduRank.org, it is currently ranked top 2 in Cebu, all of the teachers currently teaching at the institute of USJR are LPT’s or Licensed Professional Teachers, meaning that the quality of education of USJR is good in terms of the teachers, facilities and campus accommodations such as food, elevators for the higher floor levels and many more. The major drawbacks in achieving true quality education is the environment created by students and educators. There are some cases of educators being biased to a student or a group of students because of the benefits they give, bribes and other topics that I will not discuss in this essay. And as for the students, they can form cliques and groups that rival against other cliques and groups and it creates an overall hostile environment within the class, with these factors taken into account. A school can only do so much to combat the one-sidedness of people and their friends.

Promoting higher quality education directly contributes to society as a whole. By promoting higher quality education, the quality of life and work can be brought up substantially because of the knowledge some people have that others may not be able to access. But higher quality of education does not always mean a happier living environment. Based on the OECD data listed at bestdiplomats.org, South Korea is a standout country with an average literacy rate of 97.9% in 2024. But as you have heard from the word of mouth, South Korean students are heavily stressed with the workload and the education system in South Korea as of recent years. The “Suneung” exam, it is an eight hour marathon of back to back papers in multiple subjects and is known for being one of the most formidable exams in Korea, with universities only taking the top of the top scorers in the Suneung. But even with that high level of education, Korea has major problems with drug related crimes and such, weapon smuggling and other crimes.

Technology has come a long way since the start of its integration into the school system and I firmly believe that technology will help us grow into a better nation and better world overall. But with the integration of technology, there are also drawbacks with the integration of tech into our daily lives. For one, with the boom of new AI, companies are slowly pushing out more and more AI assistants with deep learning and the hardware + servers to back them up. As the new  generation is generally more tech savvy with technology than the older generations, they tend to share secret tips on how to get assistance and sometimes get the answers using AI, such as ChatGPT, Microsoft CoPilot, Google’s Gemini and so much more. The only way from the start is up and soon enough, AI will be able to solve complex equations with 100% accuracy and with tech being more and more accessible these days and being relied on, who knows what authenticity of answers are coming from a student and not an AI? I am also a firm advocate in bringing computer literacy into the lives of the average person. Because with the rise of computer usage, computer literacy should also rise. I believe that the average person should have the computer literacy to know that most files that are downloaded off of the internet are not malware/viruses unless flagged so. And I believe that the average person should be computer literate enough to be able to identify phishing scams, ransomware and other scams.

I believe that I may be able to contribute into the integration of higher quality education by supporting community fundraisers for school fundings and by voting on governors who not only promise a better Philippines but promise a better integration of quality of life facilities such as computer labs, chem labs, enhancement subjects and many more. I would say enhancement of subjects and better discipline within schools is the best case to go in promoting quality of education in the Philippines into levels better than the one we currently have. I believe that discipline plays a huge role in the development of a person and as a student, strictly enforcing the rules while fostering a caring, warm and fun environment in school is one of the goals I would put into account. Fostering the mindset of individuality and unbiased thinking is also one of the many ways that I would want to promote the learning system in the Philippine Education System.
