Fostering Quality Education: Key for a brighter tomorrow
We live in a world where lots of people are suffering from poverty, which I believe has also a negative impact not only on their lives but also on quality education. By definition, poverty is having trouble sustaining their basic needs. But in reality, poverty is the worst yet sad issue that the world is facing nowadays. I believe that quality education means not having any problems or issues with supporting your education financially and having access to topics or lessons that are essential to your future, especially if you’re planning to go to college. Thus, I also believe that quality education is achieved by making students prepare for what life really is, regardless of their identity or status.
When I was still a child, my family and I encountered tens of challenges. From getting out of poverty to having access to quality education. When we were still in poverty, it was really, really, hard. Some people looked down on us, and some were dragging us down, but by God’s grace, we are still standing up until now. I truly am grateful to God and my parents for guiding us in every aspect of our lives. I want to thank God for everything. Despite the poverty we fought, my siblings managed to finish school and graduate. I am now the only one in our family who’s still in school.
But, what really is the main problem that hinders students from getting quality education? Even though the government offers free education, specifically public schools, it is still not accessible to some, especially those in remote places. Thus, some students are also having trouble supporting their education financially even though they already have access to free education. I believe that the main and mother of all problems that hinder quality education is poverty. Luckily, some students still manage to go to school despite the hardships they have, and the poverty they’re in.
Poverty is one of the many challenges that students are battling nowadays as this affects their education. Some are having difficulties sustaining quality education such as providing their basic school supplies. Some are also having difficulties accessing quality education, especially to those who are in remote areas. Therefore, poverty really impacts the overall learning experience of a student as this hinders the opportunity for them to go to school and learn in school. Other than poverty, technologies nowadays also influence the quality of education as these help students to learn new things but they also somewhat hinder their learning as some students are relying on AI such as ChatGpt or Gemini in making their homework. Thus, educators are also having the same problems with AI as it affects educators on how they would assess the student with his or her learnings from the topic/s that was discussed.
Furthermore, if we would foster quality education, this can contribute to our society as this breaks the cycle of poverty. This also breaks barriers among different races, cultures, religions, etc. Fostering quality education can also help in equipping people with sharp minds to secure a better future for themselves. In line with that, education also influences social and economical progress in our community both positively and negatively. For a positive instance, my cousin is working at SWUMed as an ER nurse, since she is a nurse, therefore, she is also contributing to the social progress by helping people and at the same time to economical progress by sustaining herself financially above the poverty line which lessens the poverty rate. On the negative side, some people who weren’t able to finish their education were likely to live below the poverty threshold. For instance, my neighbor who keeps on looking down on us did not finish her education, not only she is uneducated, but also living below the poverty line. This serves as how important education is, and how it can change our lives as lack of education limits the capabilities of an individual and therefore, hinders them from further exploring themselves and escaping the cycle of poverty.
From my experiences, and hardships that I went through, I can also contribute to promoting quality education by attending seminars in which I can share my learnings with my fellow students. I want to inspire people to keep striving for better lives. I want them to think that despite the poverty they’re in, it is still not a hindrance to having access to quality education if they will put in hard work, perseverance, and above all, trust in God’s plan because, in him, all things are possible. Most importantly, tell your mountains about God and remember that the hardest battle is given to the strongest soldiers.
